Stand-up Paddleboard Flatwater Races
Join us for the first ever Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) Flatwater Races in Colorado Springs! We have teamed-up with Rocky Mountain State Games to bring this family-friendly event to our community. Bring the whole family to race competitively or for fun. Rent one of our boards or bring your own board (BYOB). Invite your friends and family to cheer you on. Enjoy great food from local food trucks.
DATE: Saturday - July 22nd
RACE TIMES:
There will be three race times / categories
8:15 am - Men's Competitive Fun Race (Ages 16+)
9:15 am - Women's Competitive Fun Race (Ages 16+)
10:15 am - Friends and Family Fun Race - costume optional (Ages 12+)
PRICE:
Ages 16+ with SUP rental - $25
Ages 16+ BYOB - $20
Ages 12-15 BYOB - $18
EQUIPMENT:
* Boards can be hard or inflatable.
* Leash and PFD MUST be worn during race.
* Racing bib must be worn over the PFD during the race.
* Wear protective clothing and eco-friendly sunblock.
* Event organizers are not responsible for equipment rescue and/or equipment removal, from within or around Prospect Lake, should racers lose their equipment during the event. Event organizers are not responsible for any lost or stolen belongings of any kind.
FORMAT AND RULES:
* Paddlers must arrive at the shore at least 45 minutes before their race start time, to check-in and pick-up their race bib, to prep their SUP gear, and receive a safety briefing.
* The line-up will begin 15 minutes before the race start time.
* Race will begin with a ground start format.
* Paddlers will navigate around two, yellow pyramid buoys.
* Each paddler must start and end the race standing on their own board.
* A paddler's finish will be official when their entire body crosses the checkered-flag finish line, while holding their paddle.
* No objects may be thrown.
* Board contact may occur. Please exercise courtesy towards one another. No intentional grabbing, shoving, hitting or horseplay. Any of which will result in disqualification.

RACE COURSE:
The race course is located on Prospect Lake and is approximately 0.8 miles in length. The race begins and ends at the Boat House on the corner of Prospect Lake Drive and Farragut Ave. There are two turns, each will be marked by a yellow pyramid buoy. The Men's and Women's Competitive Fun Races will run two laps for a total of about 1.8 miles. Locally sponsored prizes will be awarded for first through third place (TBA). Participants will have 30 minutes to complete the course. The Friends & Family fun race will run one lap. Costumes are optional but highly encouraged. Locally sponsored prizes will be awarded for placing and for best costumes (TBA). Participants will have 55 minutes to complete the course. |
SAFETY: Safety is of the utmost importance at this event. Please be well hydrated and wear protective clothing and eco-friendly sunblock. A hat and sunglasses are a good idea. You will be required to wear a leash and lifevest during the race. Please, no roughhousing during the race.
